Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary is a unique and beautiful 270-acre tidal marsh managed by Audubon as a wildlife sanctuary since 1970. It is located in Putnam County, New York on the east shore of the Hudson River, just south of the village of Cold Spring. It is an Audubon Important Bird Area and a New York State Bird Conservation Area, and has been designated a Significant Coastal Fish and Wildlife Habitat. CMACS is a founding member of a nationwide network of Audubon Centers and conducts education programs, breeding songbird studies, invasive species management and wetlands restoration efforts.

Our goals at Constitution Marsh Sanctuary are twofold: to provide stewardship to this important wetland habitat and to share it with others. We believe there is no substitute for a trip to the river's shoreline, where one can explore and discover it first hand. We invite you to visit and take the opportunity to closely observe wildlife and find ways of engaging in the conservation of our natural world.

What to see at Constitution Marsh

The marsh is irreplaceable habitat and provides refuge to the wildlife of the Hudson River Estuary. Common breeding birds include Marsh Wren, Louisiana Waterthrush, Spotted Sandpiper, Virginia Rail and many others.

The Education Center exhibits are highlighted by a 500-gallon aquarium and a live video (seasonal)  that  allow you to come face to face with fish, crabs and other wildlife of the Hudson River, such as nesting Eastern Phoebes. Our hiking trail lead to a 700-foot boardwalk that is accessible to families, birders, artists, or anyone who seeks to experience the natural side of the Hudson River Valley.
